Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
We have an excellent rapport with ODF&W. OCA members attend ODF&W public hearings and comment on plans and strategies. Calls are made to ODF&W regarding clarification of fishing regulations and to comment on their effectiveness. We responded to a need to protect Yelloweye Rock Fish by making fish descenders and providing them to local tackle shops to be given to deep water anglers free of charge. Fish descenders became mandatory for 2017 for all boats fishing beyond 30 fathoms for bottom fish. This program is still in effect (more than 140 descenders given away) and expanding. In turn ODF&W has supported OCA by providing Biologists to assist in the Christmas Trees for Salmon Projects, Fishing Basics Classes and granting the Education Fishing Permit.
More information is available to the general public via Facebook, search for the Oregon Coast Anglers. Donations are appreciated; checks should be made payable to the Oregon Coast Anglers and mailed to PO Box 584, Reedsport, OR 97467.
Please join us at the next Oregon Coast Banquet on July 22nd for a delicious Prime Rib Dinner at the Eagles Club Restaurant in Reedsport. The banquet is a lot of fun and our only fund raiser. All donations and money raised are dedicated to improve angling here on the Oregon South Coast. Doors open at 5:00 PM.
Need more information? Come to an OCA meeting, which are held on the first Thursday of the month at the Marina Activity Center in Winchester Bay starting at 6:30 PM, or contact Steve Godin, President, 541 255 3383.
