Our June meeting was attended by twenty one members. Welcome to Dave Davis from Florence, he joined at the meeting. Mark Teeter reported that the OCA Checking Account balance was $6,287.23. Banquet ticket sales account for the increasing balance.
Chris McCart and Rick Rockholt were recognized for their OCA support and participation in the Reedsport Memorial Day Parade. There was more discussion regarding the impact of Domoic Acid on Pacific Coast shellfish. Volunteers were requested to support ODF&W Free Fishing Days, June 3rd and 4th. Attached are pictures of members, Ron Olson, Harold Ettelt and me at Tugman Park (Linda Olson was helping, but not available for the photo) and Dave Harris at Lake Marie. Thanks for your support of Free fishing Days. Additionally, the Tugman Park event was supported by the Eel Lake STEP, Oregon State Parks, Auxiliary Coast Guard, Lower Umpqua Fly Casters, North Bend Fire Department, and others. The Lake Marie event was supported by the Gardiner, Reedsport, Winchester Bay STEP, Oregon State Parks, and the U.S. Forest Service. Thanks to ODF&W for offering and supporting Free Fishing Days. My favorite comment that I overheard, “We have to bring the kids out fishing more often.”.
All members in attendance voted in favor of having an October BBQ, Fish Dinner, Crab Dinner (to-be-determined), instead of our normal business meeting. This would be members and guest free dinner.
We discussed the 2017 OCA Banquet (July 22nd) and sold tickets. There are approximately twenty five banquet tickets left. Those that can’t make our meeting can go to the Oregon Coast Anglers Facebook Page and use the link to OregonCoastAnglers.info (or go direct) and purchase tickets with the Buy-It-Now Button. We have half a dozen liquor and wine bottles for the “barrel” of alcoholic beverage to be raffled or auctioned at the banquet. More bottles of liquor and wine are needed to fill the barrel. Member donations are coming in slowly. Please look around your home and try to find some like new items, that you could donate for the OCA banquet raffle and silent auction. We also discussed the need for cakes and pies for the live auction. We need members, who have baking skills to bake a pie or cake for the auction. Deserts are low cost items, that can yield high returns.
I asked for volunteers to help with various jobs for the banquet. Thanks to Linda Olson for volunteering to organize the Raffle items. We need someone to organize the Silent Auction items. These aren’t difficult jobs but are better organized before the banquet, then at the last minute. This is our second banquet, so we have the benefit of having already designed and digitized signage, display cards, auction sheets and more. We aren’t starting from scratch! Some members volunteered to help out at the banquet, thank you. Banquet jobs include setup and teardown, registration and check-out, selling raffle and game tickets and making our guests feel good. Anyone who would like to help out, please call me (541) 255-3383. With your help, the Oregon Coast Anglers will have an excellent 2017 Banquet.
