We had a good meeting in August, although attendance was low, sixteen members. I provided the report for the OCA Checking Account Balance, $11,789.92 with an additional $252.48 in our PayPal Account. Our 2017 OCA Banquet was a success in generating cash for projects and adding new members.
Lance Kruzic, Fish Biologist, Sustainable Fisheries Division, NOAA Roseburg Office was our Guest Speaker. Lance gave an interesting presentation regarding the history and status of the ESA listed Coastal Coho Salmon and discussed what amounts to legal hazing of Sea Lions. OCA members had many questions and comments for Lance.
A few OCA members attended the ODF&W Public Input meeting in North Bend on August 1st regarding 2018 Halibut Fishing Regulations and 2018 – 2020 Bottom Fishing Regulations. I summarized my comments to ODF&W (attached) and reviewed them with the OCA August meeting attendees. I asked for a show of hands in support of my requests to ODF&W. Members were unanimous in support. I followed up with ODF&W with the email you will see below, which also includes Maggie Sommer’s reply. If any members have additional comments regarding future Halibut and Bottom Fishing Regulations, you should address them to Lynn Mattes, (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 7th, at the Marina Activity Center at 6:30 PM.
